Six being assisted after city blaze

Two adults and four children who were living at 437 S. Roberts Road in Dunkirk are being assisted by the American Red Cross after a blaze damaged their home Thursday morning.

Chief Michael Edwards reports the Dunkirk Fire Department responded to a car fire in a driveway at 5:08 a.m. Upon arrival, crews found a vehicle fully involved with the fire extending to the single-family house.

The residents who were home at the time of the fire and had evacuated. The car and exterior of the house were extinguished quickly as firefighters made their way into the structure. The fire had extended partially into the kitchen area of the first floor and was extinguished before it advanced.

There were no injuries and the department was on scene for 90 minutes.
