County vaccination rate increases slightly

According to the state’s vaccination tracker, 28,470 residents within the county have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Chautauqua County's vaccination rate ticked up ever so slightly, according to numbers released Tuesday by New York state.

To date, 28,470 residents within the county have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, representing 22.3% of the population, and 280 more than what was reported Monday in the state's vaccination tracker. Further, 14,383 county residents have completed their vaccination series, an increase of 306 from the previous day.

In Cattaraugus County, 14,676 residents have been administered at least one dose while 8,476 have completed their series.

The slowed rate is not unexpected. A series of local vaccination clinics took place about a week ago at the State University of New York at Fredonia, Jamestown Community College and the JCC campus in Olean.

The county will host clinics today at the SUNY Fredonia Steele Hall ice rink. One that was open for those in phase 1a or 1b has already filled. Another clinic at the university today for those over the age of 60 was still accepting registrations as of 4 p.m.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo, in his daily vaccination update, said the state is working to secure additional doses.

"Our providers across the state are continuing to work day and night to reach all those New Yorkers who are presently eligible for the vaccine," he said.

The county Health Department on Tuesday recorded 15 new confirmed cases of the virus. There are currently 116 active cases, nine people with the virus in the hospital and a seven-day positivity rate of 0.9%.

There have been 7,848 total confirmed cases, 7,592 recoveries and 140 virus-related deaths in the county.
