CVCS increasing in-person school attendance

SINCLAIRVILLE — Cassadaga Valley is increasing hours for its students to be in the school buildings.

On Thursday, Superintendent Chuck Leichner announced the change in a Facebook post and in a letter posted on the school’s website.

“We are excited to start the return of increased in-person attendance for more students. As a result of class sizes and staffing capacity, we must (at this point) have a variety of return schedules. While there will be more detailed information available soon, below is the outline of student return by grade level,” he stated

According to Leicher, the changes are as follows:

¯ Half-Day Pre-K – Students who attend half-day Pre-K will begin attending five days a week on Monday, March 15.

¯ Full Day Pre-K, Grades K, 1, 2 – At this point, students who attend full-day Pre-K will remain on the hybrid model (Red/Blue groups) but will attend on Wednesdays every other week starting the week of March 29. Full day Pre-K and Grades K, 1, 2 students in the Red Group will attend Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, March 29, 30 & 31. Following the April break, the Blue Group will attend Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, April 14, 15 & 16. Attendance on alternate Wednesdays will continue for full-day Pre-K students until further notice. “Students in grades K-2 will return to full-time attendance, five days a week, in the very near future. We are hiring additional staff and equipping these classrooms with more appropriate seating options to accommodate increased student attendance. We will notify grades K, 1 & 2 families as soon as we set a definite return date,” he said.

¯ Grades 3, 4 & 5 — At this point, students in grades 3, 4 & 5 will remain on the hybrid model (Red/Blue groups) but will attend on Wednesdays every other week starting the week of March 29. Grades 3-5 students in the Red Group will attend Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, March 29, 30 & 31. Following the April Break the Blue Group will attend Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, April 14, 15 & 16. Attendance on alternate Wednesdays will continue for students in grades 3-5 until further notice. “We hope to increase Grades 3-5 attendance as we move through the spring,” he said.

¯ Grades 6, 7 & 8 – Middle school students will return to full-time attendance on Monday, March 22. There is an in-service day on March 24, but after that, the middle school will attend in-person five days a week.

¯ Grades 9, 10, 11 & 12 — At this point, high school students will remain on the hybrid model (Red/Blue groups), but will attend on Wednesdays every other week starting the week of March 29. Grades 9-12 students in the Red Group will attend Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, March 29, 30 & 31. Following the April break the Blue Group will attend Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, April 14, 15 & 16. Attendance on alternate Wednesdays will continue for our students in Grades 9-12 until further notice. “We plan to increase high school attendance as we move through the spring,” he said.
