Silver Creek backs changes to program

SILVER CREEK — Following a public hearing prior to their regularly scheduled meeting, the Village Board moved to approve a local law, which involved New York State re-writing the Local Waterfront Revitalization Program. The motion was unanimously approved by the board.

During the public hearing, the board outlined that the LWRP is the nine municipalities along Lake Erie in Chautauqua County consorting to take care of the shoreline, and any construction or advancement that would go along with it. It also includes any streams or rivers that go up and down in the municipalities.

The LWRP program has been a work in progress over the last several years. The board thought they had a program ironed out, but New York State re-wrote it, reforming how the jurisdictions were laid out.

Prior to this rewrite, each of the nine municipalities would be under one cover, but it was changed so that each municipality can make its own decisions. As noted by the board, the biggest advantage for Silver Creek joining the group is that there is consistency along the shoreline, ensuring that one area won’t usurp another.
