BEMUS POINT — A single-vehicle crash on Interstate 86 near Bemus Point resulted in the death of a 21-year-old Mayville man, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office said.

The crash, reported at about 3:10 p.m., occurred in the eastbound lane at the Westman Road overpass.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, a vehicle being driven by Joseph Zatyko — for an unknown reason — veered off the southern shoulder and struck the bridge of the overpass. Bemus Point volunteer firefighters were first called to the scene for a reported vehicle rollover.

Members of the Chautauqua County Technical Rescue Team were called to help stabilize the vehicle. Nearby fire departments provided assistance at the scene, and the coroner was later summoned.

No charges were pending, the Sheriff’s Office said.
