County announces parks have reopened

Luensman Overview Park and Erlandson Overview Park have returned to full operations, including the opening of the restroom facilities at each park.

Reservations are required for any gathering or organized event that wants to reserve the gazebo at either park. Reservations can be made by calling 661-8417.

As a reminder, both parks are open to the public from 8:30 a.m. to dusk from May 5 through November 1.

John R. Luensman Overview Park is located on Thayer Road in Portland. It is situated at the top of the Lake Erie escarpment with a view of the lake plain, villages along the north shore and the Canadian south shore.

Tom Erlandson Overview Park is located on Oak Hill Road in Carroll. The park is at an elevation of 2,080 feet, making it the second-highest elevation in the county. It offers a panoramic view of the surrounding countryside, including Chautauqua Lake to the west, Onoville valley to the east, and the Allegheny Mountains to the south.

“The county is excited to be able to fully open the parks at this time. With the easing of COVID-19 restrictions in New York state, I remind those utilizing the county’s parks to continue to be respectful of others patrons of the parks,” said Brad Bentley, Chautauqua County Department of Public Facilities director.
