Kayak launch nearing for Silver Creek

SILVER CREEK — Silver Creek Mayor Jeff Hornburg was excited to announce that, should the weather hold up, the kayak launch should be installed before this weekend. It will be located near the boat launch on Jackson Street.

“I am told that the kayak launch will be announced this Thursday,” Hornburg said. “It’s something we’ve been waiting for for quite some time.”

Hornburg thanked the state of New York for coming through with a grant to help the village of Silver Creek set up the kayak launch. Five communities in Chautauqua County are getting kayak launches installed, with Silver Creek being one of them.

“After years of work, and COVID restraints, and COVID setbacks, I’m delighted to say that this is finally moving forward,” Hornburg said. “Weather permitting, it should be installed Thursday, and we’ll move forward from there.”

Also at the meeting, Hornburg presented the final tentative budget for the village for the 2021-22 fiscal year. The tentative budget was unanimously adopted by the board. The total budget is listed at $2,662,856, with $1,760,890 in the general fund, $734,205 in the sewer fund, and $851,761 in the water fund. Hornburg added that there will be no increase to village board member salaries, and the tax rate will be $13.31 per $1,000, which is a decrease of 7.04 percent.
