Rosas proclaims today Poppy Day in Dunkirk

Wilfred Rosas, mayor of Dunkirk, has proclaimed today as “National Poppy Day” in Dunkirk. All residents and visitors are encouraged to join with Dunkirk American Legion Auxiliary Unit #62 in observing this day to honor every service member who has died in the name of liberty, freedom and democracy while also showing their support for living veterans, service members and their families.

The red poppy is a nationally recognized symbol of sacrifice worn by Americans since World I to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice and represented the hope that none had died in vain.

Poppies are available at local businesses and establishments throughout the city and citizens are encouraged to donate to this most worthy cause and to wear a poppy to honor and remember the sacrifices made by our veterans while protecting our freedoms.

All donations received will be used by the America Legion organization for their programs that support veterans, the military community and their families.
