Car club gets speaker, new site
There will be a loud speaker and a new location for the Unique Car Club event that will take place on Aug. 14.
“I think it’s a win-win situation,” Councilman At-Large Paul VanDenVouver said of the agreement.
Common Council did not act on the resolution to rescind the speaker permit during Monday’s meeting. However, due to an abundance of rains the location will be moved from Point Gratiot Park to the lot located between Tim Hortons and the Clarion Marina Hotel and Conference Center on Lake Shore Drive.
“At the Point, it’s like a swamp down there,” VanDenVouver said of the city park’s condition. “I walked around there Saturday and it’s just getting destroyed.”
The car club was at the center of a controversial June 26 show at the Chautauqua County Fairgrounds that council members noted they had more numerous complaints due to the large music. The noise could be heard during the Dunkirk High School graduation and a wedding at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church on Central Avenue.
