County records 49 new COVID cases

The Chautauqua County Health Department reported 49 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 from Friday through Sunday. There have been 210 cases recorded locally since Aug. 1.

Of the new cases, 25 came from the Jamestown zip code; five in Silver Creek and Falconer; two each in Dunkirk, Fredonia and Westfield; and one each in Forestville, Ashville, Bemus Point, Findley Lake, Frewsburg, Kennedy, Lakewood and Sinclairville.

There are currently 123 active cases in Chautauqua County along with five people with the virus in the hospital and 297 in quarantine. The CDC level of community transmission remains at substantial, with a seven-day positivity rate of 6.3%.

To date there have been 9,554 total confirmed cases, 9,272 recoveries and 159 virus-related deaths.

In Cattaraugus County, there have been 5,882 total cases of the virus, 5,697 recoveries and 110 virus-related deaths. As of Friday, there were 69 active cases, four in the hospital with COVID and 353 in quarantine.
