Wright Park work, closures announced

The city of Dunkirk has announced construction work at Wright Park, as well as temporary closures related to the project.

Set to begin next week, the project includes the installation of a new inclusive playground between the splash pad and skate park area; reconstruction of the skate park parking area; and the reconstruction of the bike/pedestrian paths along the creekside and the Little League fields.

The construction is expected to take several weeks. The parking area and paths will be closed during the construction period. Alternate parking is available at the Warsaw Street basketball courts for those wishing to use the skate park and volleyball court.

“While we apologize for the short-term inconvenience to our residents, our continued improvements to Wright Park are allowing us to offer more amenities and a safer park for our community to enjoy for many years to come,” Mayor Wilfred Rosas said.

“I am especially excited for the debut of our new inclusive playground,” he added. “We have not had a playground in the park for several years, and to my knowledge, this is the first inclusive playground in the north county and will allow young people of all abilities access to the full playground and all of its features.”
