Cassadaga Labor Day events

There will be a craft/vendor show from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Ames Plaza, sponsored by Citizens for a Better Cassadaga. The Labor of Love Parade begins at 11 a.m. The parade will be held on Maple Avenue, beginning oat Commercial Street and ending at the Cassadaga Fire Hall on Mill Street. The Ducky Derby, sponsored by the Cassadaga Lakes Association, takes place at the bridge on Maple Avenue at noon. The Bicycle/Walk Dice Run, sponsored by the Citizens for a Better Cassadaga, begins at 1:45 at Cassadaga Beach and ends there. Register at 1:15. The cost is $2 kids, $5 adults.

TUESDAY, SEPT. 7

Peaceful Soul Farmers’ Market

The Peaceful Soul Farmers’ Market is held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 11359 Southwestern Blvd., Irving. It features a variety of vendors.

Valley Historical Society meeting

The VHS meeting takes place at 7 p.m. at the Valley Historical Society museum, the corner of Main and Lester streets in Sinclairville. New members and guests are welcome.

1891 Fredonia Opera House Cinema Series

The 1891 Fredonia Opera House will present the movie “Swan Song” at 7:30 p.m. Retired hairdresser and local bar performer/icon Pat Pitsenbarger (Udo Kier) is called to style a former client’s final hairdo. Tickets are $7 for adults, $6.50 for Opera House members/seniors, $5 for students, and sold at the door only. At this time, ALL patrons are asked to wear masks when attending Opera House events.

Fly-fishing program

This weekly fly fishing program is open to children ages 12 and up, (younger if accompanied by an adult) and community members of all ages. It is held at SUNY Fredonia from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Costello Room in the Rockefeller Arts Center. Classes and supplies are free. No long-term commitment is needed.

WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 8

Dunkirk Farmers’ Market

The Dunkirk Farmers’ Market is held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the corner of Ruggles Street and Cliffstar Court at the Dunkirk Senior Center. It features local farmers and artisans.

Tops Brocton meeting

TOPS Brocton meets on Wednesdays at 3 p.m. for weigh-ins and 3:30 for the meeting at the Fellowship Church, 148 W. Main Street, Brocton. Everyone is welcome.

Dunkirk Memorial American Legion Post 62 monthly meeting Dunkirk Memorial American Legion Post 62 monthly meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. at 211 Central Ave. Note the date change to the second Wednesday for this month. With the fiscal year beginning in September, dues for 2022 are now being accepted either in person, mail to Post 62, or online at mylegion.org

Mayville’s Farmers’ Market

Mayville Farmers’ and Artisans’ Market is held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Mayville Village Park, at the traffic light at Route 394 and Route 430, Mayville. It features farmers and artisans, with special events TBA.

Dunkirk Elks Lodge bingo

Dunkirk Elks Lodge bingo will be held at Central Ave. Doors open at 5 p.m. Admission sales begin at 6 p.m. Games start at 7 p.m. Social distancing will be followed. Masks must be worn by those who are not fully vaccinated.

Designer Bag Bingo

Designer Bag Bingo begins at 6:30 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fredonia. Tickets are $30 each, includes 10 bingo cards and a marker. Doors open at 6 p.m. Proceeds benefit Chautauqua Hospice and Palliative care. Participants must be at least 18 years of age and bring their own bottle and refreshments.

Chautauqua County American Legion Auxiliary meeting

Chautauqua County American Legion Auxiliary Meeting will be held at the John W. Dill Post 434 in Brocton beginning at 6:30 p.m. Auxiliary members are encouraged to attend and begin the 2021-22 year with a renewed awareness and responsibility to veterans and their families.

Pillar of Fire Fellowship indoor yard sale

The Pillar of Fire Fellowship, 221 Lakeshore Drive West, will hold an indoor yard sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will also be a basket raffle with the drawing held Saturday at noon. All proceeds will benefit veterans.

Red, White and Blues Festival

The 25th anniversary of annual Fredonia Festival. Craft vendors, 6 to 9 p.m. food trucks, several wineries. Details TBA.

Marian Art Gallery reception

The SUNY Fredonia Rockefeller Arts Center Marian Art Gallery will host a recpetion for the exhibit: “John Buck: Prints and Sculptures from the Collection of Jordan D. Westfield flea market

This New York City-style flea market begins at 8 a.m. in Moore Park with a focus on vintage and antique goods along with fashion clothing.

Lakeshore Humane Society drive-through scrap metal drive

LHS Adoption Center, 431 Chestnut St., Dunkirk, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. No prior drop-offs. Volunteers will unload vehicles. Cannot accept TVs, computer monitors, appliances with freon-acs and refrigerators/radioactive materials.

Sinclairville History Fair

Food vendors, craft vendors, car cruise-in, dog show, baby contest, pie contest. Parade begins at 10 a.m. Magician Mark Parsons, musicians Nan Hoffman and Joe Tumino, Historical Show and Tell with Personal Historian Pat Pihl. Karaoke contest at 3 p.m.

Raynor Memorial Golf Tournament for Suicide Awareness

Procees from this event, which will be held at Maplehurst Country Club in Lakewood, will go the Suicide Prevention Alliance of Chautauqua County, The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and local families who have been affected by suicide. The tournament honors the memory of Danny Raynor, who lost his life to suicide in 2007. The four-person scramble costs $75 per person or $300 for a team of four and includes 18 holes of golf, cart, t-shirt, lunch, dinner and other give-aways.

FUMC will hold a chicken barbecue from noon until sold out at the church, 3 Park St., Forestville. The $12 meal includes half chicken, potato salad, lettuce salad, dinner roll and cookie. Drive up in front of the church for meal delivery to the car.
