Silver Creek GOP sets candidates

SILVER CREEK — The village of Silver Creek Republicans recently held their caucus for the upcoming election in November.

Sharon Burt served as the temporary Caucus secretary in the absence of permanent Caucus secretary Donna Metzger. Marv Cummings was nominated as Temporary Caucus chairman, and was cast on a unanimous ballot, as there were no other nominations.

Of the three remaining positions, Village Mayor Jeffrey Hornburg, and the two trustees Stephen Romanik and Sandra Lindstrom, only one featured an opposition. Hornburg and Romanik each received unopposed unanimous ballots cast, but Lindstrom faced Warren Kelly for the final trustee position. Once the votes were cast, Lindstrom was declared winner of the nomination.

Hornburg brings four years of experience with him in seeking reelection. Hornburg is a self-employed businessman who also owned and operated J&S Transportation, a local trucking firm, and H&H automotive, a NAPA affiliated parts store. He is currently a dispatcher and Compliance Manager for Pro Oil, Inc. in Silver Creek. Hornburg feels his business experience with fiscal management and contract negotiations helps in running the village.

Romanik has served for four years and has a Criminal Justice degree from Jamestown Community College. He began his career with the Village of Silver Creek Police Department, where he served as a patrolman, DARE instructor, and School Resource Officer. He obtained the rank of Sergeant before leaving Silver Creek to join the County Sheriff’s Department, where he still serves as a part time instructor at the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Academy. His knowledge of Union Contracts makes him a valuable asset during labor negotiations, where his dedication is unwavering.

Lindstrom has been a resident of Silver Creek for 32 years, and is currently retired from the Lake Shore School District, where she served as a Speech and Language Pathologist. She’s been a trustee for two years, and brings valuable insight to the position. She also brings knowledge in the field of contract negotiations. Lindstrom was also a 20-year member of the village Planning Board and has great knowledge about the village from that experience.

The village of Silver Creek has reduced taxes for the last four years, while maintaining Village equipment and replacing the same when needed. Last year, the village was able to reduce taxes by more than seven percent and will continue to present fiscally responsible budgets.

The election for offices will be held on November 2, 2021.
