EVANS — A structure fire on Peppertree Drive on Sunday evening has claimed a life.

Evans police report they received a 911 call for a blaze around 7:15 p.m. Sunday. They along with Highland and North Evans Fire Companies along with AMR Ambulance were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, crews found a fire in a townhouse dwelling with a deceased female in the residence.

Fire companies from Evans Center, Lake View, Brant, Lake Shore, Sunset Bay, Lake Erie Beach, Angola and Eden assisted. The fire was investigated by the town of Evans Police Detective Bureau and members of the Erie County Sheriff’s Office Fire Investigation Unit.

Members of the town building inspector’s office, the Erie County medical examiner’s office and National Fuel also were at the scene.

The cause of the fire and the name of the deceased has not yet been released. No other dwellings were damaged in the incident.
