Cassadaga cancels meeting on truck

CASSADAGA — For village officials, Monday afternoon was supposed to begin with finding a new truck for the village to use this winter.

For that purpose, a special meeting by the Cassadaga Village Board was scheduled for Monday at noon. The meeting, however, was canceled shortly before it was supposed to happen.

The reason for the meeting’s cancellation is that the village could not find a used truck to purchase. And repairs for the truck were attempted, but unsuccessful. Superintendent of Public Works Sam Alaimo said the truck the village has is not able to run and is unable to put both sand and salt on the roads.

Additionally, Alaimo previously said that there is a problem with the engine. Attempting installation of a new engine was unsuccessful. At their meeting last Wednesday, Alaimo said that they are currently borrowing a truck from another municipality, though they aren’t able to keep it very long.

The new cores that could repair the truck average around $15,000, while a new truck would cost $30,000.

Starting at $3.50/week.
