Dunkirk school drainage work underway

Submitted photo Pedestrians and cars could be inconvenienced by construction on Sixth Street.

Special to the OBSERVER

Construction work is underway at the athletic complex next to Dunkirk Middle & High School on Sixth Street. This construction assists with some much-needed drainage work as part of a capital improvement project.

The pipe has been in disrepair for a few years and was leading to some flooding issues in the basement of the Middle & High School.

Crews will be utilizing heavy equipment to move the piping to complete this work.

Due to the nature of the construction, there may be some minor traffic disruptions including intermittent road closures. Students and community members may also see sidewalk closures.

The construction is expected to last around six weeks and wrap up in the new year. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to reach out to our Director of Buildings, Grounds, and Transportation, Tim Abbey at 716-366-3189.
