GOWANDA — While the Gowanda School Board originally looked to schedule their Meet the Candidates night at Gowanda’s Hollywood Theater, those plans fell through due to the Hollywood Theater not having any availability. In fact, the entire Meet the Candidates night has effectively been scrapped, as those running are all already members of the board.

“It’s also been brought up that the three candidates are board members,” said Gowanda school board Vice President Max Graham. “So do we need to do another Meet the Candidates night?”

In lieu of holding their traditional Meet the Candidates night, Graham proposed instead that each running board member give smaller presentations about themselves at Gowanda’s next meeting, as they’ll expect a larger audience at that meeting because it is also serving as their budget hearing. Candidates will also have their bios printed in the budget newsletter that will soon be sent out.

“We’ll hopefully have a larger audience that’s interested in hearing what the candidates have to share,” he said.

Gowanda’s budget hearing will be on Wednesday, May 4 at 6 p.m. in the Middle School Library, and their meet the candidates’ presentations will be held afterward. The Budget Newsletter and Budget Notice will be sent out shortly after, including the candidate biographies. The budget vote will take place statewide on May 17.
