Ribbon cut on new Mayville restaurant grand opening

MAYVILLE — Ribbon has been cut on a new village restaurant.

Music For Your Mouth in Mayville is owned by Karen Simmons and her husband Al. The restaurant’s grand opening was held last week, though the restaurant has been open in some capacity since May 17.

“We started out with just breakfast and lunch and all the coffee drinks, but we have since hired a chef and we are expanding,” Simmons said. “We opened a smoothie bar … and now we’re offering dinner.”

Some of the restaurant’s new featured dinners include lobster, steak and pasta. The beef for Music For Your Mouth is supplied by a local grass-fed Angus beef farm in Randolph.

As a veteran and woman-owned restaurant, Simmons believes Music For Your Mouth at 21 S. Erie St. offers people a unique experience.

The name was inspired by Simmons’ love for music. “Let your taste buds sing,” she said.

Simmons and her husband enjoy serving the people of Mayville and Chautauqua County.

“We are just so excited to serve the community,” Simmons said. “Everybody’s just thrilled.”

One of the ways Music For Your Mouth is serving the community is by offering a 10% discount for veterans and first responders.

Simmons was in the process of buying a coffee shop 15 years ago when she lived in Pennsylvania. While the deal was never finalized, she said it was a “blessing in disguise.” The couple moved to Bemus Point in 2020 and Simmons was involved in a major car accident that kept her bed-ridden for about a year-and-a-half.

After recovering from her injury, Simmons discovered a new coffee shop in Bemus Point and thought she had once again missed her chance at starting her own business. However, she and her husband decided to look through the county for another place to open a restaurant.

When the couple passed through Mayville, they noticed a lack of restaurants and coffee shops in the community.

“There’s nothing here. These people are drinking gas station coffee and eating subs from a gas station,” she said. “There’s nothing wrong with that, but not for every day.”

After looking at the building that would become their restaurant on March 23 and renovating the space, they quietly opened on May 17.

The restaurant has provided a place for Simmons and her husband to both use their passions to serve the community. She said opening Music For Your Mouth means having the opportunity to serve the community, provide nutritious food and meet people.

Simmons’ goal is to serve food that people might not have had the opportunity to try before.

“It’s a place for people to come and experience amazing food that isn’t filled with garbage,” Simmons said. “Just to be able to come together as friends and leave as family. We’ve met some amazing people already.”

Music For Your Mouth is meant to be a combination of quality food, a friendly environment and good service. Simmons said people can expect a good experience when they come to the restaurant.
