United Senior Citizens salutes veterans at luncheon

Submitted Photo Five members of the United Senior Citizens were recognized for their service to our country. Pictured are veterans John Binko, Kathy Hobbs and John Wiedenhoffer. Not present for the picture were veterans Louis Klemann and Anthony Borrello.

Members of the United Senior Citizens met Nov. 14 at the Kosciuszko Club, Dunkirk, where they enjoyed a traditional Thanksgiving dinner of turkey and stuffing, mashed sweet potatoes, mixed vegetables, tossed salad and roll.

In addition, desserts were donated by member, John Binko and daughter, Linda, in honor of Veterans Day.

In unison the Pledge of Allegiance was recited, followed by President Evonne Hennebery leading the group in singing “God Bless America.” Before lunch was served, the following veterans were acknowledged with appreciation: Binko, Kathy Hobbs and John Wiedenhoffer. Although in their absence veterans Louis Klemann and Anthony Borrello escaped having their picture taken, they were still thought of respectfully in their service to our country, as every one of our veteran members are.

“Happy Birthday” was then sung to members Binko, Rose Cerrie, Patricia Gloss, Jane Penhollow and Jeri Wiedenhoffer. Before lunch there was much socializing and afterwards there was bingo called by Lucy Saeli.

December’s meeting and menu was announced by Hennebery: Monday, Dec .12, at noon and lunch will be ham, beef on weck, baby red potatoes, green beans and tossed salad.

This will be the last meeting until March 2023. Members are asked to send their 2023 dues ($5) and lunch reservation check for Dec. 12 ($12) made out to United Senior Citizens and mailed to: Evonne Hennebery, PO Box 706, Dunkirk, NY 14048 by Dec. 6.

United Senior Citizens is a “Meet, Greet and Eat” social organization where any senior citizen is welcome to enjoy lunch ($12), conversation and joke telling in addition to bingo. With questions, call Evonne Hennebery at 716-640-6943.
