Two dogs die in accidental Westfield fire
WESTFIELD — A structure fire at 6904 Sherman Westfield Road on Sunday evening led to the deaths of a pair of dogs.
Chautauqua County sheriff’s deputies report that at around 9:37 p.m., The Westfield Fire Department and several mutual aid fire departments responded to the blaze in the town. After extinguishing the fire, the Chautauqua County Fire Investigation Team was requested to the scene to conduct a cause and origin fire investigation.
An investigation found that the fire was accidental in nature and caused by the malfunction of a rechargeable lithium ion battery. No one else was injured in the blaze.
