Man nabbed in Angola robbery linked to Silver Creek
SILVER CREEK — Collin Gallese had a busy week.
So busy, in fact, that multiple law enforcement agencies across Western New York were tasked with apprehending him.
Gallese, 24, of Arkport, was the suspect of multiple robberies over the past week – first of a Crosby’s in Angola, then of the Rite Aid Pharmacy in Silver Creek the next day.
Gallese allegedly committed a robbery of Crosby’s on North Main Street in Angola on Friday night. According to Evans Police, the subject of that crime demanded cash and merchandise by showing a note to an employee. It is also alleged that the subject produced a knife during the commission of the act.
On Saturday, Gallese was taken into custody in Cheektowaga after a vehicle matching the description of the vehicle involved in the robbery in Angola was located by Cheektowaga Police. Gallese was in possession of the vehicle, which had been reported stolen. Evans Police Detectives interviewed and charged Gallese with first-degree robbery, a felony.
But apparently, one robbery over the weekend just wasn’t enough for Gallese.
Gallese was also the suspect that was caught on camera by the village of Silver Creek’s security system after a robbery of the Rite Aid Pharmacy in Silver Creek on Saturday night.
According to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, on Saturday night, a white male around 6 feet tall, weighing approximately 200 pounds entered the Rite Aid Pharmacy located at 214 Central Ave. in Silver Creek.
The suspect made his way to the front cashier, demanded money and threatened harm to the employee. A weapon was never displayed or mentioned, but the suspect did keep one hand in his jacket pocket. The suspect received $614.00 in cash and fled in a gray/tan Toyota with an orange New York plate. The suspect fled to Howard Street toward the Route 5 and Route 20 split, possibly into Erie County.
Silver Creek Village Trustee Steve Romanik told the OBSERVER that thanks to the village’s security cameras, the suspect’s vehicle was seen driving through the village going to Rite Aid. A male matching the description of the suspect was seen exiting his vehicle and entering the store, then running out of the store moments later and taking off in the same vehicle. The village installed the security cameras last spring.
“The use of the security footage helped immensely in identifying somebody,” said Chautauqua County Sheriff Jim Quattrone. “In this case, they were pretty good photos.”
Gallese was first identified as a suspect over the weekend, but his identity was withheld as the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office pursued him after he was released for the robbery in Angola.
The weekend spree of crimes allegedly committed by Gallese are far from the first time his name has been connected with illegal activity.
According to The Evening Tribune in Hornell, at age 17, Gallese was arrested in April of 2016 after allegedly beating and robbing two teenage boys at knife point. He was charged with two counts of first-degree robbery, fourth-degree conspiracy, third-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
According to the Star Gazette in Elmira, in January of 2015, Gallese was charged with grand larceny and third-degree trespassing following a joint investigation by state police and the Hornell Police Department. Gallese allegedly stole various items of equipment from the Dolomite Group (formerly A.L. Blades) of Hornell, state police said. He was arraigned and committed to the Steuben County Jail.
Investigators Jake Stahley and Joshua Arnone of the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office were assigned to the Silver Creek robbery case.
