LAKEWOOD — The 14th annual Centaur Stride Therapeutic Horseback Riding Facility Walk-a-Thon sponsored by the Lakewood Kiwanis will be held Sunday at the Chautauqua Mall.

Registration will be in front of Old Navy at 1:30 p.m. with the walk beginning at 2 p.m.

Centaur Stride will be celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. More than 500 people with disabilities have benefitted from the programs over the years.

Some still ride regularly; others have taken breaks and then returned.

The benefits of therapeutic riding have been well documented, but have also been witnessed through the programs. A

Centaur Stride has had support form both the Northern Chautauqua and Chautauqua Region Community Foundations and well as endowment funds through the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation. The majority of the budget is through fundraisers and donations, and a modest $30 per lesson rider fee. Lessons are provided both for people with and without disabilities, so that programs are integrated.
