Police investigating Dunkirk shooting

OBSERVER Staff Report

The Dunkirk Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred at about 6:15 p.m. on Sunday in the 400 block of Columbus Avenue.

According to police, a 34-year-old male arrived at Brooks Hospital by private vehicle for injuries related to a gunshot wound. The victim was being treated for non-life threatening injuries and the suspects were known by the victim. The incident is under investigation.

After the victim arrived at the emergency room, Brooks Hospital went into lock down, which apparently is standard protocol.

Hospital spokesperson Nancy Steves said, “We go on lock downs for various and assorted reasons all the time. (Sunday night) we did not do anything above and beyond what is normally done.”
