“Through investigation, it was determined that the fire was caused by a propane leak within the residence igniting as a result of coming into proximity with a water heater burner,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

Volunteers from Brocton, Chautauqua, Portland, Stockton, Cassadaga, Sherman, Bemus Point, Mayville and Ellery Center, along with Chautauqua County Emergency Services, responded Friday. No injuries were reported; however, the Sheriff’s Office said several family pets did not survive.
