Erie 2-Chautauqua-Cattaraugus BOCES has hired Bryna Moritz as its new deputy superintendent. The Board of Education appointed Moritz to the position during its regular meeting on March 29.

“Ms. Moritz has done outstanding work at Pine Valley as superintendent, and in a short time has built a culture of support for students, families, staff and faculty there,” E2CCB District Superintendent Dr. David O’Rourke said. “Her voice has also become influential among our superintendents in the region, and she has led multiple initiatives showing her leadership skills.”

Moritz began her leadership career at the Sherman Central School District. In addition to teaching grades 4, 5 and 6, and serving on the Committee of Special Education as chair, she held the positions of Instructional Support Specialist, Director of Special Education, Chief Information Officer and pre-K-12th grade principal. For the past four years, she has served as the superintendent of Pine Valley Central School District.

“Our staff and faculty who participated in interviews described Ms. Moritz as dynamic, refreshing and an excellent listener,” O’Rourke said. “With the help of our stakeholder teams and a subcommittee of our superintendents, I’m confident we chose the right leader for this important role.”

The deputy superintendent position was created following a study of the BOCES’ administrative structure, the outcome of which demonstrated the need for an encompassing role similar to other large BOCES. E2CCB has grown significantly in role, support and services. In order to accomplish the recommendations of the study, a thoughtful restructuring took place. The Assistant Superintendent for Management Services role is being reallocated appropriately within the BOCES. The Deputy Superintendent role was established to support all E2CCB programs and administrative functions with the District Superintendent.

“I have seen firsthand the hardships school districts face that impact our students,” Moritz said. “The heightened social and emotional needs of students, behavior and discipline challenges, staffing shortages, new reporting requirements and sustaining programs are being felt daily in our region. I cannot wait to dive in and support the BOCES internal team as they work to support our students, and I look forward to partnering with Dr. O’Rourke and the rest of the E2CCB staff to serve the region’s evolving needs.”

Starting at $3.50/week.
