MAYVILLE — A new face with a familiar last name has joined the village board.
Mayville Mayor Rick Syper has appointed Janel Webb as a board trustee. Webb takes the seat vacated by Ben Webb who resigned in March.
Webb, with her husband, owns and operates Webb’s Candies and Webb’s Resort.
Syper joked at the village board meeting that her name makes it easy on assignments. “By keeping a Webb at the table, you make it easier for me to not have to reappoint people to a committee. The Webb name stays the same at every committee level,” he said.
Webb is the second trustee appointed by Syper. Earlier this year he appointed Daniel Roush to his former seat, which became vacant once Syper was sworn in as mayor.
According to county Republican Election Commissioner Brian Abram, both Roush and Webb will need run for office in November if they want to continue to serve after Dec. 31. Both races will be for one year terms. They would need to run again in 2024 for a four-year term.
With Webb’s appointment, all four trustees are new to the board. Both Trustees Mark Perry and Bill Ward were elected in November and were sworn into office in January. Ward had previously served as a county legislator.
