Brocton-Portland Seniors mark 48 years

The Brocton-Portland Seniors 48th year anniversary meeting was held April 25 at Brocton American Legion.

President Robin Carr opened for 60 members with Doug Chatley leading the Pledge of Allegiance and Cecelia Filipkowski’s prayer of thanks. The committee of Tom DeJoe, Filipkowski, Jean Jaquith and Ruth Neal, had tables set in spring colors for the anniversary.

Fred’s Catering feast of baked potatoes, roast beef, quarter chicken, mixed vegetables, fresh salad, rolls and cake was enjoyed by 60 members.

John and Kristin Savage were introduced. He is a guitarist and entertains with his stories, guitar, songs and ukulele. He ended the hour with the song, “What a Wonderful World.”

Secretary and treasurer’s reports were read and approved; new member Linda Janes was welcomed. Plans were completed for the Amish Dinner with final payment due today.

The OFA luncheon was May 3 at Celeron Hotel and May 10 at the Clarion in Dunkirk. May 24 was the Salad Luncheon at St. Dominic’s Church in Westfield.

Ahira Hall Library has a donation fund raiser going. Birthdays for May were Carm Johnson, Jean Jaquith, Olive Becker, Tom Hebeisen, Ed McClenathan and Janice West. Linda Riley and McClenathan won the door prizes, there were 10 raffle winners and 18 winners for the cups of spring plants.

The Tuesday meeting will be a tureen meal. Members are to bring a dish to pass and their own personal table service. The committee is Robin Carr, Sue Schrantz, DeJoe, Annabelle Hahn and Deb Messere. The program will be Bingo. New members are always welcome and the monthly meeting is the last Tuesday of each month and begins with a social hour.
