Local outfits get foundation grants

Several organizations with Chautauqua County ties have received grants from an endowment created by late Buffalo Bills owner Ralph Wilson.

The Legacy Funds at the Community Foundation, created by Wilson’s own foundation in 2016, recently announced grants for 64 Western New York organizations.

These include:

¯ $20,000 for the Chautauqua Region Economic Development Corporation.

¯ $17,000 for BestSelf Behavioral Health, Inc.

¯ $10,000 for Boys and Girls Club of Northern Chautauqua County.

¯ $7,000 for the Western New York Lacrosse Foundation.

¯ $6,000 for Chautauqua Striders.

The Legacy Funds are annual grants, with more than $10 million awarded since 2016. Nearly $1 million was awarded this year.

The grants are given in four categories to support areas important to Wilson: Caregivers, Community Assets, Design and Access, and Youth Sports.
