Police probing city shooting

Dunkirk police are asking for the public’s assistance after a shooting on Maple Avenue in the area of East Sixth Street. In a news release issued Tuesday night, officers said they were called to a disturbance where shots were fired and one person was struck after 4:25 p.m. The victim was transported to Brooks-TLC Hospital System in Dunkirk and later transferred to ECMC in Buffalo via Mercy Flight. This incident was targeted among people who know each other, the officers said. The Dunkirk Police Department was assisted by county District Attorney Jason Schmidt, New York State Police, Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, Jamestown Police Department, University Police, Chautauqua County Forensic Investigation Team, and Dunkirk Fire Department, Alstar Ambulance.
