The city of Dunkirk plans to lease parking spaces in its East Fourth Street lot to BestSelf Behavioral Health.

The Common Council authorized a lease agreement Tuesday with the clinic, which plans to move its Fredonia facility to a property across the street from the lot. BestSelf purchased the property from the Dunkirk City School District, which once used it as a reading clinic, but it has sat empty for years.

Mayor Wilfred Rosas told the council it’s not clear how many spaces BestSelf will lease, but he said it would be a “small number.”

“We’re going to negotiate an agreeable amount (of spaces),” Rosas said. “We own it and maintain it but receive no revenues from the property.”

The lease will be reviewable by both parties after a year, according to the resolution passed Tuesday.
