The Juneteenth Celebration Committee will be sponsoring the 27th annual Juneteenth Celebration in the city of Dunkirk. Celebration days for this year will be Saturday, June 17 and Sunday, June 18 at Memorial Park, Lake Shore Drive West, Dunkirk. The theme for Juneteenth 2023 is "We Are The Ones to Create Change."
In 1996, citizens of the Dunkirk-Fredonia community co-sponsored the first Juneteenth Celebration to be observed in Chautauqua County. The main goal of this celebration is to commemorate and perpetuate the heritage, culture and contributions of African Americans.
The Committee is finalizing the schedule of events for Saturday and Sunday. Saturday will include an Education, Health and Labor Fair. The committee is currently seeking community organizations that would like to have a table to showcase their organization.
