The Juneteenth Celebration Committee has finalized plans for the 27th Celebration to be held in the City of Dunkirk.

Celebration days for this year will be Saturday and Sunday at Memorial Park, Lake Shore Drive West, Dunkirk. The theme for Juneteenth 2023 is “We Are The Ones to Create Change.”

Saturday will begin with Opening Ceremonies at noon entitled “Lest We Forget.”

The committee has once again planned many activities for family enjoyment: face painting, Juneteenth photo booth, ice cream eating contest, ZUMBA by Jayme Delcamp, balloon animals by Tina, party bouncers, children’s crafts, games, sand art, Juneteenth Baskets, video game tent, poetry slam by Pure Ink, and music by Familiar Spirit of Erie, Pennsylvania.

There will also be a Health, Education and Labor Fair that will include, among others, the following organizations: SUNY Fredonia, League of Women Voters, Upward Bound Program, Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation, Dunkirk School 3 and PK Program, New York State Troopers, Dunkirk Police Department, Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department, Chautauqua County Office for Aging Services, Connect Dunkirk Committee, I.D.E.A. Coalition, Democratic Committee, Healthy Community Alliance, American Red Cross, etc.

Committee is invited to come out and support the many vendors that will be present with jewelry, food, crafts, purses, and much more.

A new event this year will be a Spades Tourney. Spades is a card game invented in the United States in the 1930s.

Sunday will include “Church in the Park” with special guest speaker, Bishop Leecroft Clarke, Lead Pastor of Healing Word Ministries Church of God in Jamestown. Music entertainment on Sunday will include Brothers in Christ of Dunkirk, Minister Charles Clark of Buffalo and M.O.D. (Men of Distinction) and Friends of OD3, Dunkirk.

All are invited and welcomed to attend this freedom celebration.
