Legion Auxiliary names officers at monthly meeting

CASSADAGA — The Cassadaga Legion Auxiliary Unit 1280 held its monthly meeting at the -ost May 9 with 14 senior members attending, all officers present.

It was a busy business meeting. The Chaplain Paula Pattison reported on send sympathy and get-well cards to Legion Family members, and Unit 1280 hosted two funeral luncheons for Post 1280 and Unit 1280 members in April.

Hours were counted for Community Service involving food boxes delivered to needy families, the Walk-a-Thon for Veterans, and Unit members making lap robes for Veterans. There was discussion on holding a CPR/Defibrillator class at the Post.

Membership chair Sally Lawson noted there is still a few Unit 1280 members not paid for 2023.

Poppy chairperson Carol Baker reported that there were 40 poppy cans in local businesses and passed around a sign-up sheet for “Poppy Days” distribution May 25 to 29. Unit 1280 members were to join Post 1280 and Sons of Legion members for the Memorial Day for 11 cemetery visits starting at 7 a.m., and the parade at 11, starting at Ames Common, at the four corners in Cassadaga.

Sons of the Legion’s summertime Cruise-Nights that will be held the last Tuesday of the summer months: June 27, July 25 and Aug. 29 from 6 to 9 p.m. Unit 1280 will be holding the famous Pie and Baked Goods Sales during these Cruise Nights.

At this point of the Unit 1280 meeting, nominations for Unit 1280 2023-2024 officers were taken. They are: President Ranee Kaus; 1st Vice President Bev Speelberg; Secretary Carol Baker, Treasurer, Sue DeGolier; Chaplain Pattison; Sgt-at-Arms, Lynn Moeller. Secretary Carol Baker cast one ballot to accept this slate of officers, passed.

Our next Unit meeting will be Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. and will include tbhe installation of the 2023-2024 officers.
