Scouts head to national jamboree
Seventeen youth and six adults from the BSA Allegheny Highlands Council left Western New York this week to attend the 2023 BSA National Jamboree at Bechtel Summit in W.Va. This 10-day, high adventure experience typically happens every four years, but because of COVID has not been held since 2017. More than 15,000 scouts from around the country and around the world will attend and participate in a variety of activities, including whitewater rafting, ziplining, service projects to support flood victims, mountain biking, rock climbing, shooting sports, orienteering, and much more. The Allegheny Highlands Council contingent groups have been preparing for this trek for many months and have faced many challenges, including the unexpected passing of their scoutmaster, David Gray. The group is honoring Gray with a banner to be placed at their campsite.
