SILVER CREEK -- A shared services agreement between the village of Silver Creek and the Town of Hanover regarding code enforcement personnel has worked out well enough for Silver Creek that they decided to make the hires official.
The village approved the hiring of Rich Vasile and Vince Gugliuzza as Code Enforcement Officers at a rate of $25 per hour; and of John Kennedy as a Zoning Officer at a rate of $22 per hour. The hires were made to address the vacancy left by Daniel Hogg, who recently resigned as Village Code Enforcement/Zoning Officer.
Regarding the shared services agreement, Silver Creek Mayor Jeff Hornburg previously stated, "I don't know if it will be a long-term endeavor or if we will search for a code enforcement officer of our own in the future, but for the time being, so we didn't leave the village neglected, I thought it best that we move forward."
Hornburg was also authorized to sign a contract to purchase the parcel of land adjacent to the DPW building from Franklin Pagano at a price of $10,000. The property is on the west side of the building coming up from Route 5.
"This particular piece of property comes within two feet of our building now," said Hornburg, who noted the purchase was made "so that somebody can't come in and purchase the property and give us a hassle."
The village also adopted a local law to revise Chapter 180 of the Streets and Sidewalks code; changed the Village Savings Account to a Money Market Account earning 2.75% interest with Community Bank; and is preparing a new bid for a pickup truck for the Water/Sewer Department, as the previous bid was rejected.
