The city of Dunkirk has temporarily gone silent about its marina.
There has been no public comments about the marina from city officials at the last two Common Council meetings. City Attorney Michael Bobseine had no comments on the record when the OBSERVER asked him about it Thursday.
Peter Smith and his family are still operating the marina. Smith took over the lease in the spring under a deal with Charles Pringle. However, Smith subsequently ran into legal and personal trouble.
He was criminally charged in July over threats made to someone who allegedly stole from him.
Law enforcers reported he fired a gunshot through the person's window in one incident, then painted "Confes or die" on their property in the other.
Smith also got disqualified from victory at a Bart's Cove fishing tourney July 30 because he stuffed his catch with more fish to boost its weight.
The Common Council has not formally ratified the lease transfer.
