The city of Dunkirk will hold a series of public meetings and engagement opportunities in support of the Dunkirk Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI). On Tuesday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Clarion Hotel, the DRI Local Planning Committee (LPC) will hold its fourth meeting to hear presentations from project sponsors seeking funding through the DRI program and discuss next steps in the planning process.
Members of the public are invited to attend and provide comments at the end. On Monday, Aug. 28, from 4 to 7 p.m., members of the DRI team will be present at the Back to School Bash in Point Gratiot Park to get feedback from the community on projects requesting DRI funding.
On Thursday, Sept. 14 from 5 to 7 p.m., a public workshop will be held at the Clarion Hotel where community members can visit stations throughout the meeting room to review projects, speak with consultant team members, and complete a project feedback form to ensure their voice is heard.
"We are excited to hear community ideas for revitalizing Dunkirk's downtown core," said Dunkirk Mayor Wilfred Rosas. "This process is the beginning of a wide range of opportunities for downtown."
The city of Dunkirk was nominated by the Western New York Regional Economic Development Council and selected by New York state to receive a $10 million award through the State's Downtown Revitalization Initiative. The DRI investment will allow Dunkirk to develop a Strategic Investment Plan and implement key catalytic projects that advance Dunkirk's vision for revitalization of its downtown area. Projects selected for DRI funding will transform the community and support a vibrant local economy.
