The Darwin R. Barker Library, located at 7 Day St., Fredonia is planning a number of events for the coming weeks, including:
¯ The library will host a woodworking exhibition by Fredonia's own Richard Gilman through Oct. 27. Handmade dulcimers, banjos and more will be on display during the library's open hours. A reception in honor of the exhibitor will be Saturday, Oct. 14 at noon with refreshments and a live folk music performance.
¯ Children's programs run through Oct. 3. Barker Library storytimes will be Mondays at 10:30 a.m. for preschoolers and Tuesdays, afterschool at 4:15 p.m. for all ages. Join in for stories, movies, crafts and play. All children are welcome. No registration is necessary.
¯ The annual Barker Library book sale will take place Monday, Sept. 25 through Saturday, Sept. 30 during the library's normal hours of operation. Prices are $1 for hardcovers, 50 cents for paperbacks and $5 per bag during the bag sale on Friday and Saturday. Book donations are accepted on an ongoing basis. All proceeds benefit the Darwin R. Barker Library and Museum Association.
¯ Technology Training – Ancestry Library Edition will be offered Friday, Sept. 15 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. In this class, explore Ancestry Library Edition, a free version of Ancestry. This class will use hands-on learning with time for exploration at the end. Ancestry-related computer prints will be free. Space is limited, so registration is required. Bring your own smart-device/laptop to the event or borrow one of the library's laptops.
¯ The library will continue offering individual computer tutoring in September on Mondays and Thursdays. Appointments are needed for this free service. Specify needs. Dell laptops are available to borrow. For all classes, call the library at 716 672-8051 to register for the class. All programs are free of charge.
¯ The award-winning author Western New York native Robert Brighton will share a presentation about his latest book, "Facts and Fantasies of the Gilded Age" and will conduct a book signing on Tuesday, Oct. 3 at 5 p.m. Call the library to register.
¯ The New York Times best-selling author Wendy Corsi Staub will conduct book signings at the library on Saturday, Oct. 7 at the library. Call 716-672-8051 to register..
¯ Local artists are invited to submit their artwork for display at the library. Mediums include photography, painting, illustration, mixed media, jewelry, small sculpture, ceramics, woodworking, glass arts and fabric arts.
