JAMESTOWN -- A man who Jamestown police say was sitting on a porch was shot in the early morning hours Thursday.

According to Capt. Robert Samuelson of the Jamestown Police Department, the man was outside a Whitley Avenue home when he was struck by multiple gunshots a little before 2 a.m. He was treated by patrol officers before being taken by ambulance to UPMC Chautauqua and then airlifted to a nearby hospital where he underwent surgery, Samuelson said. The man was in stable condition Thursday afternoon.

Samuelson said the suspect fled on foot after the shooting and headed east toward the West Sixth Street bridge. Residents with security cameras are asked to review their footage and look for a man wearing a blue hoodie and jeans who fled the area on foot traveling east across the West Sixth Street Bridge.
