Bamonto seeks fifth term on Dunkirk council

Martin Bamonto

Martin Bamonto is seeking re-election to Dunkirk Common Council in the Second Ward.

“I am currently in my fourth term. I was born and raised here and deeply love my hometown,” Bamonto said. It has been an honor to serve the people of our city for the past eight years and I want to continue being a part of moving our community forward.

“For the past 29 years I have been employed with ECR International, also known as, Dunkirk Radiator in the past. I have a strong union background and come from a line of union family members including my dad and brother. I have also served as a union representative for a number of years. We have four unions in our city and as councilman I have voted yes to all nine city union contracts. I am currently the president of the Local 2693 Steelworkers Union District 4, which I have also been endorsed by.

“During two of my four terms as councilman, I was the Chairman of the Personnel Committee. I currently serve as the Chairman of the Finance Committee and the Safety and Economic Committee. We have completed many projects including but not limited to Willowbrook water tower, Howard Street bridge, an upgrade to Point Gratiot Park and bathrooms. I worked with Mayor Rosas on the $2.5 million pier project to beautify the waterfront. “My experience, as past Chairman of the Personnel Committee and the current Chairman of the Finance Committee have provided me with the skills and knowledge to take on a larger leadership role on the next council. Some may not know that during my tenure we have taken the city’s waste-water fund from being in the red and turned it into the healthiest of our three funds. I would like to keep that trend forthcoming.

“My vision for this upcoming term includes, but is not limited to, help bring more jobs to the area and help with plans for continued development from the pier all the way up Central Avenue. I look forward to building a trusting and strong working relationship with the new mayor, administration and council. My greatest hope is that we can all come together on a united front to work on making the best decisions for our city’s taxpayers. This is a pivotal election for Dunkirk and we need to all work together to continue to bring our city up.”
