Dr. G. Jay Bishop

Dr. Bishop is a 24-year resident of the town and first moved to Western New York in 1991 to establish a medical practice. He presently specializes in Vascular Medicine and has been employed in the past with Chautauqua Medical Associates in Dunkirk and Fredonia, and as the Division Chief of Vascular Medicine at the UPMC Heart and Vascular Institute at UPMC Hamot with offices in Western New York and Pennsylvania.
He presently is the Associate Section Head of Vascular Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Bishop has received multiple awards including multiple Best Doctors in America listings, Best Doctors in Western New York, Community Based Teaching Preceptor awards from the American College of Physicians, the Robert S Bergson award in medicine for outstanding physician faculty member by the University of Buffalo School of Medicine, and various teaching and leadership awards from the Cleveland Clinic. Originally from the Pittsburgh area, he proudly served his country for four years as a medic in the United States Air Force.
He has served on the Town Board for the last eight years and is especially proud of both past and recent town board accomplishments, including property tax and budget stability, North County Water District formation with new sewer and water projects, local laws including solar farms and short-term rentals, and sensible business growth in appropriate districts.
“It has been my distinct honor and privilege to serve the residents of our wonderful community. I have been so fortunate to work with an outstanding group of council members and supervisors. I am especially proud of our accomplishments, and I remain committed and dedicated to the residents of our Town. I feel we still have worthy projects to address, including finalize property tax relief for first responders, fire service volunteers, and veterans, continue to promote a culture of excellence for our Town employees, and address the needs of our Town Hall and highways. Hopefully, my commonsense approach to the opportunities and challenges we face in our town will be instrumental in our continued success.”
Bishop has been active in the community with volunteerism and has served on multiple boards including Brooks Memorial Hospital, Chautauqua Hospice and Palliative Care, Chautauqua County Health Network and Integrated Delivery System, and the Dunkirk Historical Lighthouse. He has been active with local sports including ice hockey and coached the local Varsity High School hockey team to back-to-back New York State Championships. Dr. Bishop resides in the town with his wife Kimberly and son Jackson, and his older children reside in the neighboring village of Fredonia and in Buffalo. His hobbies include boating, hockey, and spending time with family.
