HANOVER -- Elizabeth VanCheri is seeking election to the office of town clerk this November. A 25-year resident of the town, she works as the Court Clerk for Hanover, and is endorsed by both the Republican and Conservative parties.
She and her husband, Chris, have two children, Christopher, a 2020 graduate of Silver Creek Central, currently attending Houghton University, and Stephanie, a Senior at Silver Creek.
While earning an associate degree in paralegal studies, she worked as a salesperson for a watch company to put herself through college. After graduation, she was promoted multiple times to eventually become an Area Supervisor/ Corporate Trainer for the company, overseeing locations in multiple states. After taking time off to raise her children, Elizabeth re-entered the workforce as an office manager for a local gutter company, before becoming a New York State certified tax preparer. In 2017 she accepted a position at Silver Creek Village court and in 2018 transferred to Hanover Town Court.
VanCheri has always been involved in community service. She has been a Girl Scout leader for 13 years, and currently serves as the Tri-County Girl Scout Service Unit Finance Consultant and Co Manager. In the past she has coached Girls on the Run and Little League Softball. She was elected vice president of Hanover Little League in 2014. She was president of the Hanover Travel Baseball team and secured the teams 501c3 Not for Profit status. She is past president of the Silver Creek Forestville Baseball boosters and an active member of both the SC soccer and softball booster clubs. She is a recipient of the Chautauqua County United Way Community Impact Award.
In her current role as court clerk, VanCheri not only works with her co clerk to manage the court office responsibilities, she has also secured grants for office equipment, construction of a judge's chambers, improving the appearance of the court room, including new furniture, and a portion of the surveillance system within the town hall.
VanCheri sees the Town Clerk's office as the gateway to the town, both in face to face and digital communication. She plans to develop a strong online presence for the town and create an atmosphere that is geared toward servicing the residents of Hanover. She promises to bring her extensive clerical experience and dedication to the community with her when she is elected as the next Hanover Town Clerk.
