Jeff Hornburg seeks re-election as mayor of Silver Creek

Jeff Hornburg

SILVER CREEK – Jeff Hornburg is seeking re-election as village mayor.

“I became a Village Trustee eight years ago,” he said. “I served with Mayor Nick Piccolo for two years before he decided to step down.

“After careful consideration I decided to run for the mayoral position and have served as mayor for the last six years. I have had the pleasure of working with a number of village trustees, including those that serve currently.

“This is an enthusiastic board with nothing but the best intentions for the village of Silver Creek. We have worked together to maintain a fair tax base, with reductions every year I have been on the board. We have provided new and newer equipment for our DPW, Sewer and Water and Fire Department all without raising village taxes.

“My comments throughout my service have always been, “I am committed to transparent, common sense government for the Village of Silver Creek”. It is what I expect to deliver for the next two years.

“I was a self-employed businessman for 33 years running the family trucking business, Harry Hornburg & Son, later changing the name to J&S Transportation. I also owned H&H Automotive, a NAPA affiliated parts store, for ten years. During this time I employed eight to 10 employees, negotiated contracts and stayed within the budgets that I created with the help of my accountants. I am currently employed by Pro Oil, Inc. serving as their dispatcher and Compliance Manager.

The village has seen numerous changes during my tenure. The entire village was converted to LED street lighting saving money over the outdated mercury vapor.

“The village fountain was completely rebuilt with the help of a Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation $7,500 grant, a donation of $7,000 from the Silver Creek Rehabilitation group, and numerous donations totaling over $4,000 from the good people of Silver Creek.

“The Village was awarded a $871,000 WIIA grant (Water Infrastructure Improvement Act) to assist in our mandated rebuilding of our wastewater and sewer system. We also were awarded a grant of $22,000 from LEMC in State Funding for the installation of an ADA Handicapped Accessible Kayak Launch at the boat launch on Jackson Street.

“In 2020 the Village was awarded a $493,000 grant from the New York State Community Development Block Grant, which is being used to upgrade and revitalize several homes in the Village. The village has also been awarded a second state CDBG grant for $500,000 to continue with this project through 2024.

“We have also received a $12,500 grant from the Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Foundation to assist with the installation of our new playground equipment in the Village ballpark.

“I am also excited about the redevelopment of the former Hideaway Bay site. I have worked with Kevin Cullen and support his efforts for what he calls Hideaway Bay Resort through his business Adventure Sports Development. He also plans on allowing public access to the area.

Dave Gordon of Dave’s Christmas Outlet has purchased the former Petri Building for warehousing, and has opened a retail location on Main Street. I would encourage everyone to stop and take a look at all they have in their store.

“I have a great working relationship with the Town of Hanover Board and together we are exploring the installation of a Splash Pad within the Village. Shared services have been a benefit for both parties, and funds have been saved by both in doing so. The Village and the Town recently partnered with the Kiwanis Club of Silver Creek to resurface the basketball court on Rex Place. My thanks to the Kiwanis Club for this project.”

I am enthusiastic about the future and respectfully ask for your vote for me and my fellow running mates for Trustee, Kathy Tampio and Sandy Lindstrom on the Republican line on Tuesday November 7, 2023.

Starting at $3.50/week.
