Legion officials meet national commander

Recently, officers past and present of the Chautauqua County American Legion found their way to Buffalo, at the Niagara Frontier Post 1041, to attend a dinner honoring the new National Commander Daniel J. Seehafer. The commander gave an inspirational and motivating speech about engaging veterans and saving lives. The American Legion has recently committed to a program designed to identify and reduce the rate of veteran suicide nationwide with compassionate assistance and direction to help with issues facing many veterans. More information about this initiative can be found at www.legion.org and search for “Be the One.” The County Commander stated, “Additionally, any veteran can seek assistance from our blanket of service officers at any American Legion Post.” Pictured attending the dinner from Chautauqua County included Dimon Smith (8th District SAL Commander), Kirk Miller (County Commander), Henry Link (Past 8th District Commander), Daniel J. Seehafer (National Commander), Stanley Kawski (County Chaplain), John Miga (Past 8th District Commander), Peter Ochocki (County 1st Vice Commander), Steve Cybart (Past County Commander), and John “Knobby” Walsh (County SAL Commander). Absent from the photo were Mattie McIntyre (County 4th Vice Commander), and Barbara Colt (County Judge Advocate).
