Miller running for Dunkirk Town Board seat

Shari Miller

Shari Miller is running for a seat in the town of Dunkirk. She has received the endorsement of the Chautauqua County Conservative Committee and Republican Committee and hopes to receive broad based support in the Nov. 7 election. As part of her door to door campaign, she has listened to the concerns of the Town residents and is ready to represent them.

She is a 29-year resident who moved to the town of Dunkirk in January 1994. She has served for 10 years on the Town Planning Board in which she has held the chair position for the last three. She was also a very active member in the creation of the first ever Town of Dunkirk Comprehensive Plan and the revision of the Town Zoning Code Book.

Miller is an advocate for respectful and thoughtful growth in the town of Dunkirk for residents and hopes that the community can look at the larger picture, which means looking outside of the town lines and working with other regional communities. She believes homeowners make neighborhoods and neighborhoods make communities. “It is through communities that we can make a better Chautauqua County,” she said.

She holds degrees from Monroe Community College and SUNY Fredonia and holds certificates from Cornell University’s Administrative Management Institute and FEMA. She is a lifelong learner who continues to take classes and workshops with The New York Federation of Towns and Villages, The New York Planning Federation, Southern Tier West, Cornell University, and SUNY.

She is employed with SUNY Fredonia as the Director of Purchasing where she is responsible for procurements in excess of $12 million annually that meet federal, state, SUNY, and Education Law requirements. She believes that fiscal responsibility and transparency to taxpayers is job one.

She and her family own and operate Miller’s Apples, a century farm, where her husband, Mike, is fourth generation. They are members of the National Grape Cooperative and the New York Farm Bureau. “I look forward to serving the residents of the town of Dunkirk” she said.
