Jack Pasquale is seeking election to Dunkirk Common Council representing Ward 3.
"I was born and raised here in Dunkirk. My wife Jodi and I raised our family and continue to reside in the Third Ward, on Park Avenue," he said.
"I am running for City Council quite simply because I care about Dunkirk. I care about the people of Dunkirk and I believe that we deserve the best possible representation in city government.
"I have leadership and problem solving experience gained from my role as a sergeant during my 16 years of service in the National Guard.
"I was also a supervisor, then promoted to Director of Nutritional Services at Brooks Memorial Hospital.
"I am currently employed by the state Department Of Corrections at the Lakeview Shock Incarceration Facility in Brocton, where I supervise groups of Incarcerated Individuals in the daily operation of the food service department.
"Among the more immediate issues issues facing Dunkirk, is the need to bring in more businesses, both large and small and to help our city attract new residents.
"This goes hand in hand with continuing the progress being made in addressing issues such as abandoned, dilapidated structures owned by absentee landlords who do not seemed concerned that these properties are dangerous, unsightly and in some cases, being used for illegal activities.
"I plan to work with our city's legal team and law enforcement to hold these property owners accountable. They will know in no uncertain terms that this is unacceptable and will not be tolerated in Dunkirk.
"There are many opportunities for growth here in Dunkirk. Room for new businesses, more family friendly activities, such as improvements to our parks and playgrounds, more entertainment and cultural events, more waterfront activities and events. Huge potential.
"I am very proud to call Dunkirk home and honored to be part of the amazing team we've assembled.
"We will continue to build on Dunkirk's progress through honest open communication, by listening to our citizens and by taking a common sense approach to dealing with challenges and making the most of opportunities. We will accomplish this by working together, regardless of party affiliation.
"That's why I am a bit surprised and disappointed that the Republican candidates for council chose not to participate in the Meet the Candidates event hosted by the Chautauqua County League of Women Voters, last month.
"This would have been a great opportunity for our citizens to hear firsthand the different viewpoints of the candidates addressing the wide variety of submitted questions.
"We are all doing this because we care about our hometown.
"If I am elected, I intend to work cooperatively and supportively with my fellow officials, regardless of who is in the seat.
"Thank you for your consideration.
"It would truly be an honor to serve the people of the city of Dunkirk."
