James Stoyle has announced his candidacy for re-election as Third Ward representative on the city of Dunkirk's Common Council.
"First, let me say that it has been my honor and pleasure serving as your Third Ward councilman. If given the chance, I'd like to
continue to work for the people," he said.
"I was born and raised here my whole life. I graduated from Cardinal Mindszenty High School. After high school I went right to work at Plymouth Tube. Unfortunately they are no longer here, as are not many of the other great companies. I married Sandra Korbas and we had three wonderful children. Before joining the Dunkirk Fire Department as a professional firefighter, I served as a volunteer fireman for six years."
"For the last four years I have served as the chairman of the Safety Committee. I have also served as the co-chairman of the Finance Committee.
"As chairman of the Safety Committee I am proud to say that I was instrumental in making sure both the Police and Fire Departments got the funding to secure the equipment they need to do their jobs safely and better. In the Fire Department, we have purchased two new pumpers that were badly needed. We also got them a new water rescue boat that has already saved lives.
"I have also been in constant contact with the city department heads to make sure they are able to do the job properly. I believe we have installed 13 new water valves that will help control water flow in the city.
"I also enjoy helping people navigate the red tape that they are forced to go through at City Hall. Hopefully with a new administration there will be more open communications between the mayor and council. I believe this will create a much needed avenue of togetherness and working for the good of all.
"I am hoping with the $10 million grant, it will be spent building up our downtown and maybe some affordable housing for our seniors who have worked all their lives and want to stay here. I have worked very hard to fulfill my original campaign promise and that was if you want more jobs and people to fill those jobs, you have to invest in our infrastructure. On the finance committee I will do my best to watch where the money goes. Hopefully with accountability we will not have to borrow $5.5 million to pay our bills."
