SILVER CREEK -- Kathy Tampio has announced her candidacy for trustee of the village. She was recently appointed to the Village Board after the resignation of former Trustee Steve Romanik and is now seeking a two-year term on the board at the election on Nov. 7. She is on the ballot as one of the endorsed Republican village candidates.
Tampio is no stranger to government service. She was the clerk of the Chautauqua County Legislature for 11 years. Prior service includes the elected town of Hanover supervisor for eight years and two previous years as a Hanover Town Board Councilman. In her current part-time position as Financial Analyst for the Chautauqua County Legislature, she is the administrative coordinator for the Northern Chautauqua County Water District, coordinating the capital project and its grants to complete the regional water system that provides water to the municipalities in northern Chautauqua County.
After her service ended with the town of Hanover, Tampio held the position of Executive Director of the Chadwick Bay Regional Development Corp.
She was the owner/operator of Hanover Custom Framing, a former Silver Creek business. In addition she has also been involved with many area volunteer organizations. Tampio was a past member of several boards including the Festival of Grapes Committee, the Silver Creek/Irving Chamber of Commerce, Hanover Planning Board, Chautauqua County Habitat for Humanity, and the Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation. She currently serves on the Silver Creek - Irving Heritage Fund board and is a longtime "Friend" of the Anderson-Lee Library.
"As a village trustee I am most concerned about continuing to provide our community the essential Fire, Police and EMS services, maintaining and improving village infrastructure - our streets and parks and the water and wastewater systems," she said. "In addition, it is important to support and maintain our dedicated volunteers and employees while being fiscally responsible and controlling the village tax rates. I hope to continue to work with the rest of the village board to serve our community."
A resident of Silver Creek for over 30 years, she and her late husband Mike raised their three children who all graduated from Silver Creek Central School.
