SHERIDAN -- Colleen Yerico is seeking re-election on the Sheridan Town Board.
"It has been a honor to be your boots on the ground as councilwoman for 20 years," she said. "Running for office wasn't ever something I would have ever thought I would do.
"When I was asked 21 years ago, I remembered thinking, could I make a difference? So just like anything else I have ever done, I jumped in and gave it my all."
Some of the pieces of Yerico's instrumental past include: municipal water to Route 5; municipal water soon to portions of Miller Road, South Roberts and Route 20 West as part of a grant; restructuring of Sheridan Youth Recreation Program; restructuring scheduling of Highway Department to shifts during winter months to lesson overtime and driver fatigue.
Other items include:
¯ Purchase of the closed St. John Bosco Church to create town hall and courthouse by wisely re-purposing every possible detail for cost savings.
¯ Approving sale of former Town Hall to the Sheridan Historical Society.
¯ Applying for and receiving $150,000 over the years for Sheridan Bay Park for upgrades in water and ample electricity moving forward with the times. A new pavilion this year was added this year and new bathhouse next year. All done without using taxpayers money
¯ Using ARPA funds from COVID to put a roof and an upgrade of the town's Community Center used for Voting and public hearings and meetings.
¯ Going through the legal process to clean up "eyesore" properties in the town as not to burden taxpayers with costs.
¯ Working closely together with town Zoning Board to make laws so solar farms for "Green Energy" are a welcome addition of progress without compromising the beauty of Sheridan.
Moving forward, Yerico's goals are:
¯ To keep the town budget under the tax cap for New York state.
¯ Continue to apply for any applicable grants for town projects.
¯ Continue to pursue regional water and all grants available.
She is a lifetime resident of Sheridan and resides with husband, John, co-owner and retail manager and Flower grower of Yerico Farms Greenhouse and Yerico Farms Farm Market For 31 years. Proudly working alongside her children and their spouses.
She has been a sales associate at Kirk's Jewelers in Dunkirk for 22 years and boasts regularly about her seven grandchildren given the chance. "Thank you for trusting me all these years with the town's health," she said. "I would appreciate your support on Nov. 7.
She is endorsed by the Republican and Conservative parties.
