The Darwin R. Barker Library, located at 7 Day St., Fredonia is planning a number of events for the coming weeks, including:
A solo exhibition of 18 oil paintings by Fredonia artist Thomas Annear entitled "Transformations: Time, Place and Light," will be displayed through Dec. 22 during normal business hours. The event features more than a dozen new and recent works and explores a vital geological feature – the local escarpment.. Annear is an award-winning plein air painter. Annear will host a special free holiday card-making workshop at the library on Saturday, Dec. 2 from 10 a.m. to noon.
A creative writing workshop takes place Tuesday from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Bring a pen or pencil and notebook. Explore different themes, play with words, meet other writers. No registration is required.
On Saturday at 2 p.m. the Barker Library Book Club will meet to discuss "Howard's End," by E.M. Forster.
Children’s programs — through 28, Barker Library storytimes will be held Mondays at 10:30 a.m. for preschoolers and Tuesdays, afterschool at 4:15 p.m. for all ages. Join in for stories, movies, crafts and play. All children are welcome. No registration is necessary. There will be no storytime Tuesday, Nov. 14.
Technology Training – "Library Catalog Search" will be offered Thursday, Nov. 16 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Learn how to search the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Library System catalog for physical books, books on CD, DVDs and more. Space is limited, so registration is required. Bring your own smart-device/laptop to the event or borrow one of the library's laptops. Free of charge. Call 716 672-8051.
The library will continue offering individual computer tutoring in November on Mondays and Fridays. Appointments are needed for this free service. Specify needs. Dell laptops are available to borrow.
Master Builders is offered on Thursdays at 4 p.m. Build with LEGOs, Magformers, TINKER TOY, Marble Runs, ZOOB, TRIO and more. All children are welcome. No registration is required. Caregivers must remain in the building.
Local artists are invited to submit their artwork for display at the library. Mediums include photography, painting, illustration, mixed media, jewelry, small sculpture, ceramics, woodworking, glass arts and fabric arts. Self-taught and professional artists from Chautauqua County are welcome to submit artwork. For more information, visit the website at
